I want to import a PPE product into Northern Ireland - what do I need to do?

Subject to the Northern Ireland Protocol - If the product is already CE marked then you shall ensure you have the necessary EU declaration of Conformity – you may wish to confirm its validity by submitting to the relevant Notified Body or by reviewing the Type-examination certificate (and Approval Decision if applicable). The Northern Ireland Protocol and associated agreements will be reviewed every 3-4 years, and this situation may change.

If the product is already UKNI marked then you shall ensure you have the necessary UKNI Declaration of Conformity – you may wish to confirm its validity by submitting to the relevant Approved Body or by reviewing the Type-examination certificate (and Approval Decision if applicable).

If the product is not CE marked or UKNI marked, and is not exclusively for minimal risks (i.e. is Cat II or III), then the product is required to have type-examination (Module B) as a minimum. Products for environments/uses with very serious consequences such as death or irreversible damage to health also require an Approval Decision via assessment of production items (Module C2) or production control (Module D).

We may offer a joint service for CE and UKNI marking – which will give rights to place goods on the market of the EU (under the ‘CE’) and Northern Ireland (under the ‘UKNI’ mark – or ‘CE’ provided the Northern Ireland Protocol and associated agreements permit this).
